Lotus Ami Pro is a classic WYSIWYG word processor widely used in the early 1990s, known for its approachable interface and strong layout capabilities on Microsoft Windows (notably Windows 3.x). It helped individuals and businesses create professional-looking documents—ranging from letters and reports to newsletters—without needing desktop publishing software.

Key capabilities include:

  • Style-based formatting for consistent, polished documents
  • Page layout tools with columns, frames, and headers/footers
  • Integrated spell checking and a thesaurus
  • Tables, graphics placement, and basic drawing tools
  • Mail merge for form letters and labels
  • Macro support to automate repetitive tasks
  • Compatibility with popular document formats of its era

Ami Pro later evolved into Lotus Word Pro, but it remains remembered for bringing powerful, easy-to-use word processing and layout features to mainstream Windows users.

Lotus AMIPRO is developed by IBM. The most popular version of this product among our users is 3.1.

To whom it may concern:

I have around 60 + documents in Lotus Ami Pro for Windows Release 3.1; and I can't open them at all. I still have the 8 Original Diskettes of Ami Pro 3.1, but it's impossible to download this program into the computer due to the new technology. Is there any way that I can transfer my 60 + to another word processor that works with the new technology?

Any assistance you may provide will be greatly appreciated it.
